My Bloody Valentine (Ireland)

My Bloody Valentine are an alternative rock band formed 1983 in Dublin, Ireland. The band's founding members are guitarist/singer Kevin Shields and drummer Colm Ó Cíosóig. The lineup during the band's late 80s/early 90s heyday included singer-guitarist Bilinda Butcher and bassist Debbie Googe after the band settled in London.

As My Bloody Valentine's music progressed, their use of distortion, pitch bending, and digital reverb resulted in a sound that came to be known as shoegazing. The group's 1991 critically acclaimed album Loveless took two years to make mostly due to funding problems. Following Loveless, My Bloody Valentine became inactive, with Shields recording and shelving several albums' worth of follow-up material. In 2007, Shields announced that the band had reunited and were recording new material. The name of the band is taken from the 1981 horror film of the same name.[2]

A very important band for me, definitely the first shoegaze group I ever came across. The album Isn't Anything is one of my overall favourites, I especially love the sliding opening track, "Soft as Snow (but Warm Inside)"

Yes I agree with you, My Bloody Valentine was the very first shoegaze band and its impact on his scene is very huge. I discovered the band with "Loveless" which is a very great record... I like pretty much the noisy sound of the band !

I heard of Shoegaze a number of years ago before recently getting into it, so I had ABSOLUTELY no idea that the pioneers of this awesome genre were MBV, whom I had always assumed were Emo/Metalcore, Avenged Sevenfold shit, y'know.

This is why enlightenment rocks;)

And I can probably find these records in stores too, which is spectacular. (Looking for Shoegaze in HMV is horrendous, a feat I won't be attempting again any time soon).

Yes My Bloody Valentine is really the first shoegaze band and you're right, it's easy to find their CDS in stores

I dont get that "guilty" feeling anymore when I listen to them.

Anyone see them live on the recent tour? I caught the Boston show, which was almost a spiritual experience for me. The noise section of "You Made Me Realize" was positively stunning, like being hit by the blast of a jet engine. My clothes were rippling, and when I took out my earplugs for a brief second it was almost as if I could feel my hearing getting worse...
