| How to begin this?! My name is Veronica, I'm 23 and live in Texas. I work at a used bookstore while I figure out what I want to do with my life! I graduated from college a year ago -- I received my bachelor's degree in computer science. It's serving me very well! D: Onto the interesting shit -- I never thought I'd like black metal of any sort -- I associated it all with NSBM when I was in my teens. A huge error on my part, but I was enthralled with other sub-genres of metal at the time. Peste Noire was my first jump into black metal (La Sanie des Siècles is perfect !) and from that point anyone can make the logical jump as to why I'm here... That seems like a pretty good introduction for now. | |

| Greetings, Sir Texan, and welcome to our humble forum! I can see by your signature that you have been listening to some Earth to round off your night, a fine choice. |

I'm a cowgirl, not a cowboy, haha! I'm not done with my night QUITE yet, but Earth is definitely a good choice for certain moments.

| Hello Veronica (always wanted to meet someone with that name). It's nice to see someone from the dirty south here:) Although I now live in Quebec, I spent the largest part of my childhood growing up in Atlanta. (useless trivia tidbit) | |

Sounds like a dream to get out of here, actually! I'd love to live somewhere else for a while, but I love Texas. Or I should say I hate/love Texas! My sister was born in GA, though, and her husband lived there shortly before moving to Houston. Good times! I'd love to see Quebec, though; it has to be a vast improvement on any city located in the DIRTY South. Oh, any reason for wanting to meet a Veronica? I feel like I have some shoes I need to fill now,..

Well, its very different. To be truthful, I miss the south very much, everything is so different there when compared with here (mentality, extremity, foliage, etc.). Quebec is like a little piece of Europe tucked into North America. I've become a great supporter of (good) depressive BM bands in the local scene, and obviously it is inspired heavily by the France scene (and yes... Peste Noire is everywhere here... every 14 year old Black Metaller wears the shirts... lol). Perhaps my friends and I are just jaded for despising them so .... - Citation :

Nope, I've just always wanted to meet one. They always sound so sensuous... *whispers* ''Veronicaaa...'' hehehe

Sounds nice -- I know there's a bit of bantering about Canadian French vs French French (haha), but I always love how things (languages, music..) evolve so quickly -- the slang is different, the pronunciation is different. Beautiful shit, man. I loved listening to my classmate from Quebec speak his French - Pathetique a écrit:

I definitely don't blame you for despising them so much -- one of the first black metal bands I got into and definitely have grown (a little bit) from there. Still, I like 'em. Won't say I don't; the ridiculousness is part of the charm. I WILL ALSO SAY, that the Canadian BM bands I've listened to have ALL been excellent, and I'd love to listen to some local shit that you have to offer! - Pathetique a écrit:

Yeah, there is a bit of a squable up here over language, which I find absolutely ludicrous really. Not only do the Quebec people have something against France French, the English/French war up here is just insane, to a nauseating degree. I see the point, that the French people want to keep their culture vibrant, and I support that fully (I love French). I just think that bitching about the fact that people speak English in Quebec is not a means of any sort of progression whatsoever. - Citation :

We (my bandmates and close friends) just sort of boycotted them from the beginning, although their influence is so prevalent. There are a few bands that fit into this blacklist: Akitsa from Quebec, and Alcest strangely enough. I love Alcest, but the act of attempting to relate that appreciation (especially to one of my friends in particular) is an uphill struggle. I'll get her though Some bands to check out for sure: Cejsthe, Monarque, Gris (which I see you already are familiar with, they are one of my favorites), Sombres Foretes, Miserere Luminis, etc. There are many. You might want to stay away from Akitsa though (just sayin, lol). Some French (France) bands worth checking out (you may already be well familiar with them, but for the sake of others): Glorior Belli, Blut Aus Nord, and of course... Nocturnal Depression. Their latest album 'Cult of Negation'' is a future classic. - Citation :

Did I make you nauseous? lol... yeah, I have that effect on people. You'll get used to it.

| WAIT -- why am I staying away from Akitsa? They seem like pretty standard black metal to me,.. They're playing at Rites of Darkness 3 in San Antonio, TX which has a pretty solid line up. Thanks for the recommendations, though! I'll tell ya what I end up liking tons. | |
