Old Silver Key - Tales of Wanderings (September 16th, 2011 )

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of Old Silver Key, a brand-new band born from the hyperactive mind of Drudkh mainman Roman Saenko.

Old Silver Key consists of the four Drudkh members plus French artist Neige (Alcest, Amesoeurs, Peste Noire) on vocals.

The aim of this new project is to create nostalgic, romantic and light atmosphere of solitude, beholding, childhood and warmth. The first album is already in recording process.

This is an album I'm awaiting with anticipation, the videos I've seen so far are just excerpts I believe, which is a tease...

And there is also "Burnt Letters" (link I've posted). I read some disappointed reviews...

I find it hard to believe that this album is bad.
Musicians on it are simply great and I don't think that they are capable of releasing a bad album.

I'll check that in a few days

It doesn't seem to come out until the 27th over here, but I have it on order. I agree; I don't see how this combination can be bad.

Exactly, everything with Niege in it is so damn good.

Boring record, sometimes vocals doesn't fit very well the clean voice. And it's like Neige recorded his voice in his sleep, it's a very soporific album

I will be listening to it in a minute, however I'm sure that it will be even less than a mediocore album!

Perhaps "Burnt Letters" was used as a promo song just because it's the best one among the others, lol!

Well, it is the best song on the release, sadly.

Well, as for me, I like the album. Nice atmosphere, good vocals, beautiful melodies.

My two favourites songs are Burnt Letters & About Which An Old House Dreams. Other songs are pretty boring...

I liked the album.
However my expectations for this release were REALLY high!!

I was expecting it to be mind blowing. Something I'd want to listen to over and over again.
So i was disappointed and that makes it have an ill taste in my mouth.
But i don't hate it, I think its good i just hoped it was amazing.

After a few listenings the album it's not that bad, but it's not what I was expecting. The more I listen to it the more I like it but it's pretty boring on some parts though.

For me, Tales of Wanderings is an album which can be heard incidentally. It's neither Alcest nor Drudkh though the influences are very clear. When it comes to highlights, I'd say Burnt Letters and November Nights Insomnia. The rest... well, these guys certainly know how to play an instrument. The thing I was and am still missing is some inspiration regarding the whole album.

Huge disappointment which a surprise for me since I love everything that's related to Drudkh. I think that the Falloch record owns this totally. Sorry guys

After two plays through, I must say I was not as disappointed as I was expecting to be. Is it an incredible album? No, not at all, but it is fairly solid, and I have enjoyed it. Probably a 5.5 or 6/10, if I were grading it.

totally agree

I still haven't decided if I liked or not: let's be honest, they could have done much better than they did. For me, it sounded like a weak Alcest Release, I was expecting more Drudkh-ish influence (ambient, repetitive riffage and ¿communion with nature?)

By the way, the more I listen the record, the more I like it in a special way. It has very very great moments...

Burnt Letters is the only song that i really like on the album so I'm glad that he's doing a video for that song.
As much as I listen to it I still can't get into it that much.

I agree that this album can be heard "incidentally," although I disagree with your highlights! Star Catcher, Cold Spring, About Which an Old House Dreams and are definitely the songs I tend to skip other songs for, haha. The lyrics for Cold Spring (which I've been trying to decipher) intrigue me, especially the words/phrases I can catch. I'm not sure who the lyricist(s) for this album are/were, but...

Either way, I think this album has grown on me, but it took me a lot less time than a few spins for me to like it. Hah!
